Born in Niederrimbach, Germany in 1913. Receive PH.D. in Cosmic Ray Physics. Pioneered research in nuclear energy. Member of Werner Von Braun’s rocket team at Peenemunde, working on guidance and control systems. Continued rocket development work with United States Army at Fort Bliss, Texas after World War II. Acquired United States pilot’s license, transferred to NASA in 1960. Continued research at Huntsville, Alabama on Electric-Ion Space Propulsion for Human Mars Flight. Involved in special projects including Skylab, America’s first space stations and Hubble Space Telescope. Co-authored biographical memoir “Werner Von Braun, Crusades for Space.”
